Paulo Martins Chan’s term as DICJ director extended by one year

Macau Government

Macau’s gambling regulator, The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau or DICJ, has announced via the government’s Official Gazette newsletter that Director Paulo Martin Chan will start another 12-month term beginning December 1.

Chan was initially appointed the position for a year long term in December 2015. It has been subsequently renewed each year since. He was appointed at a turbulent time in the Macau gaming industry; at the time of his initial appointment Macau’s GGR was in its 17th consecutive month on decline. Prior to his appointment he had worked at the Prosecutions Office for over 17 years. Chan’s predecessor, Manuel Joaquim das Neves, was director for nearly two-decades.

Earlier this year, Chan was granted 2019 Regulator of the Year for Asia / Australasia by the International Masters of Gaming Law, an award which recognizes outstanding regulators based on stringent standards.
